Myopia is a Growing Concern

Myopia research has indicated that frequent activities like reading and digital device use, coupled with a lack of outdoor play, may contribute to the rapid increase in childhood myopia.

Although glasses and contact lenses can compensate for a child’s blurry distance vision, these tools don’t stop the prevention of myopia from being developed further. As children develop, myopia often occurs as they reach school age and, if left untreated, can progress into their late teens.

The Concern of Myopia

Research results have proven that patients with myopia are at risk of developing sight-threatening conditions and diseases.

Evidence shows that patients with mild myopia are 4 to 5 times more at risk for experiencing retinal detachment. Patients with moderate to severe myopia, the risk increases 10 times. One study proves that more than 50% of retinal detachments not related to trauma are associated with myopia. Other myopia risks includeglaucomacataracts, and macular degeneration.
